Cognitive Dynamics on the Balance-Scale Task

چکیده
Our ability to detect patterns and observe regularities is a fundamental part of reasoning and learning. Various theoretical accounts conceptualize induction in different ways. In the current study, we used the balance-scale task and mouse-tracking techniques as a means to explore the cognitive dynamics that underlie inductive pattern recognition. Although we did not replicate an expected interaction between problem difficulty and task instruction because of a procedural constraint, we were still able to examine the implicit cognitive dynamics underlying explicit behavioral responses as a function of problem difficulty. In particular, we found some support that newer, nonalgorithmic accounts of cognition on such tasks better characterize performance than rule-based accounts.

The Effects of Continuous Cognitive Task on Postural Control of People with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using Balance Error Scoring System
Objective: People with Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction need to have almost automatic postural control to focus on their athletic skills. Continuous cognitive task is a method for removing attention from postural control. The effects of continuous cognitive task on postural control of people with ACL reconstruction has been assessed by laboratory tools; however, its effect using ...

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of motor and cognitive dual-task training on dynamic balance of elderly women. For this purpose, 27 old women (aged 60 -82 years) from the old people center of Birjand city were selected randomly and divided into 3 groupd based on their TUG scores. The groups comprised of cognitive dual-task training, motor dual-task training and contro...

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of dual task training including balance sit-to-stand and cognitive exercises on postural control of sit to stand of elderly women with a history of falling. 15 elderly women were randomly divided into control (n=7) and experimental (n=8) groups. Participants implemented training protocol for four weeks in both experimental (balance ...

متن کاملBelief revisions in the cognitive development of proportional reasoning: dynamics, statistical models and computational models
In the balance scale task, children are asked to predict the movement of a balance scale. Equally heavy weights can be placed on the arms of the scale, at equally spaced distances. Figure 1 shows a graphical display of a balance scale problem. Blocks underneath the arms prevent the scale from tipping. The task assesses proportional reasoning as it requires the understanding of the multiplicativ...
